Tips for a Knockout Body by Cara Castronuova

Fiesty female fighter, Cara Castronuova shook up the trainer mix in the 10th season of “The Biggest Loser” as one of new weight loss trainers. Cara, who has used boxing to get her through many of life’s road blocks, has the training philosophy of “make training a lifestyle.” Cara says “I have a ‘warrior mentality’ when it comes to training. It is necessary to live a good life and you have to do it, no matter what and who you are. Period.”

Cara offers the following tips for a knockout body:

  • Add 3 set of 12 push-ups to every morning to your “getting ready” routine.
  • Choose white lean protein before red meat.
  • Accept your unfixable flaws and move on.
  • Try a boxing class.
  • Fill half of your plate with fresh veggies.
  • Add intervals to your cardio routine.
  • Eat fewer carbs at night.
  • Wean yourself off of sugar and any sugary drinks.
  • Do not starve yourself.
  • Take classes at the gym for variety.
  • Push yourself to new limits with every workout.
  • Buy a “goal outfit” in the size you aspire to be and hang it where you can see it every day for inspiration.
  • Do not eat foods that are full of preservatives and sodium. You will retain water and feel sluggish during your workouts.
  • Cook for a few days and store food in portion-control sized containers and Ziploc bags so you are prepared when you are hungry.
  • Attempt to understand what triggers you to overeat and fix it with ways besides eating.
  • Make new workout goals for yourself constantly.
  • Leave a set of hand weights near you TV so you can do a quick arm routine as you watch you favorite TV show. You may be compelled to throw in a few sets of squats and sit-ups.
  • Aim for your best body, not someone elses.
  • Buy a nick workout outfit or two to motivate you to workout.
  • Don’t waste calories on drinks like lattes and soda. It isn’t worth it! Learn to love water.
